José Prats

José Prats (Caravaca de la Cruz, Murcia, España, 21/12/1988) es un director de cine, guionista e ilustrador español nominado a los Premios Goya y a los BAFTA en el Reino Unido. Estudió Bellas Artes y comenzó su carrera como ilustrador para estudios de animación españoles, mexicanos y finlandeses. Entre 2016-2021 trabajó en el estudio británico Aardman Animations, donde trabajó en el mediometraje nominado al Oscar «Robin Robin» y en la producción de Netflix «Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget». También ha trabajado en los largometrajes «Atrapa la Bandera» en España y «Scoob: Holiday Haunt» y «Angry Birds 3» para EEUU. En 2020 dirigió «Umbrellas», cortometraje de animación 2D seleccionado en el Festival Clermont-Ferrand y nominado a los Premios Goya de la Academia Española. En 2022 obtuvo una beca de la Fundación La Caixa para estudiar Dirección de Animación en la National Film and Television School del Reino Unido. Su película de graduación, «Adiós», un drama en stop-motion ambientado en la España rural, ha sido seleccionado en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Animación de Annecy, el Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián, nominado a los premios BAFTA del Reino Unido y ganador en los premios ANNIE en Estados Unidos. Actualmente, José está desarrollando «Barro», un drama romántico y surrealista en stop-motion, y «Gas», una comedia negra/drama en imagen real. Después de «Puto humo» (2022), «Adiós» es su tercer cortometraje como director.

He studied Fine Arts and started his career as a visual development artist for Spanish, Mexican and Finnish animation studios. Between 2016-2021 he worked at the British Studio Aardman Animations, where he worked on the Oscar nominated “Robin Robin” and the Netflix production “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget”. In 2020 he directed Umbrellas, a 2D animation short film selected for Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, and nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the Spanish Academy Goya Awards. In 2022 he was granted a La Caixa Foundation Fellowship to study Directing Animation at the National Film and Television School in the UK. His graduation film “Adiós”, a stop-motion drama set in rural Spain, won the ANNIE Award for Best Student Film, was selected to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, San Sebastian International Film Festival and nominated for the BAFTA Awards in the Best British Animation category and winner of the ANNIE. José is currently developing “Barro”, a romantic and surreal drama in stop-motion, and “Gas”, a black comedy/drama in live-action. After “Puto humo” (2022), “Adiós” is his third short film as a director.
