Han pasado 30 años desde el último genocidio del siglo XX. Las imágenes de cadáveres cosidos a machetazos entre abril y junio de 1994 estremecieron al mundo. Nos contaron que fue un conflicto étnico, una historia de buenos y malos en la que 800.000 tutsis fueron asesinados a manos de la población hutu. El relato oficial sirvió incluso para rodar una película, «Hotel Ruanda», que contaba al mundo una historia sencilla de héroes y villanos. Pero, ¿y si la realidad no correspondiera con ese idílico guion de Hollywood?
Thirty years have passed since the last genocide of the 20th century. The images of corpses hacked by machetes between April and June 1994 shook the world. We were told it was an ethnic conflict, a story of good guys and bad guys, in which 800,000 Tutsis were killed at the hands of the Hutu population. The official narrative even served as the basis for a movie, “Hotel Rwanda”, which told the world a simple story of heroes and villains. But what if reality didn’t match that idyllic Hollywood script?
Director
Jon Cuesta (San Sebastián, España, 22/07/1983), periodista y director de cine documental, es fundador de la productora Ébano Stories y está especializado en temática de derechos humanos, refugiados y emergencias humanitarias. Ha rodado documentales en países como Somalia, Ruanda, Mali, Kenia y República Democrática del Congo, entre otros. «Prisión Ruanda», una investigación que le llevó 10 años de trabajo y que desmonta la versión oficial del genocidio ruandés del que ahora se cumplen 30 años, es su cuarta película como director, después de «La historia enterrada» (2018), «Team Mali» (2017) y «Tracks on the sand» (2016).
Jon Cuesta (San Sebastián, Spain, 07/22/1983), journalist and documentary film director, is the founder of the production company Ébano Stories and specializes in human rights, refugees, and humanitarian emergencies. He has filmed documentaries in countries such as Somalia, Rwanda, Mali, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, among others. “Prison Rwanda” is the result of a 10-year investigation that challenges the official narrative of the Rwandan genocide and his fourth film as a director, after “La historia enterrada” (2018), “Team Mali” (2017) and “Tracks on the sand” (2016).
